About Derek

derek roe, HairStylist, Salon Owner, Guest Artist for Hair Shows, Software Developer, Photographer.

derek started his career as a Hair Stylist in London Ontario Canada working for Elizabeth Arden Salons. In the years following, derek has travelled & worked in 9 different countries as a stylist. In London England in the 60's & 70's he opened a 'West End' salon & worked with most of the fashion press including, Vogue, Harpers, Queen, Cosmepolitan, Daily Express & most of the top advertising agencies.
After returning to the United States, derek established a post graduate hairstyling academy in Grand Rapids MI & continued to do Guest Artist Shows for various Cosmetic Manufacturers including Redken, and LaMaur as well as Distributors all over the USA.
After he sold the school & moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he opened another up market salon in Marin County, whilst contiuing his hair show travelling.
In 1994, derek created one of the first Windows based Software management programs for hair & beauty salons. The software, called CRIMPERS (a slang English name for 'Hairdrsser') currently exists in hundreds of salons mainly in the US.
Recently derek has revived an old 'hobby' Photography which got it's early start when in London England. Working as a set hairstylist for some of the world's premiere fashion photographers peaked his interest and actually led to some personal photos being published in the glossies. Lately he has backed off, though he has not completely abandoned his hairstyling in his salon, and is concentrating on his new passion, Photography along with maintaining & supporting his Management Software. Shown here are a few examples of his current work, and as a proud dog lover, & owner of 2 Golden Retrievers, is specialising in portraits & canine photography.
The use of lower case in the name derek is intended.
